What's Hot

Here's our favourite places to visit:

For those wanting a lazy day on the beach, head for Croyde; one of the best around for swimming, surfing, fishing or simply lying in the sun. It's quaint village of thatched cottages is simply Devon!

If you want more of an action packed day then head for Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Saunton Sands; a mecca for surfing, sub-aqua diving and kayaking.

Lundy - a unique island where you can spot deer, seals, ponies, basking sharks and dolphins. Sail from Bideford or Ilfracombe just a 30 minute drive away.

RHS Rosemoor with 65 acres of garden and woodland to explore. You can also enjoy numerous events such as Open Air Theatres, Art Exhibitions along with many art and garden related workshops.

The Tarka Trail covers 21 miles and takes in a great variety of landscapes, including wooded river valleys, rugged moorland, coastal cliffs and sandy bays. There are plenty of refreshment stops en-route for either a cream tea or a much earned pint! Get on yer bike and ride!

North Devon Show

Taking place in Torrington (20 minutes away), the show not only has the finest livestock in the South West, but also provides a huge tented village with 50 stalls of hand-made items from local crafters, flowers, food and cookery demonstrations throughout the day.

Bev & Neil Come a Cropper!

Hi everyone! We're here again to update you with what's been happening at Sammy B's over the past few months.

The 1st day of summer was 21st June, but we were celebrating weeks before then with our very first crop of spuds ever! We're very proud of our efforts and all that nurturing has paid off with a whole 10 potatoes being dug up (hence the heading), not bad for us city folk! We have a 2nd crop due soon, so keep your fingers crossed that we break our record!

Our extended family has been lending a helping hand or should that be claw. We now have 8 hens who all insist on digging up just about everything we plant. We are not amused but keep on forgiving them as they are giving us some nice big eggs for breakfast!

We're delighted to say that May was our busiest month to date with the Exmoor Walking Festival bringing in lots of hikers - we hope your boots have dried out and the blisters have gone!

April was looking like a bit of a wash-out and just when Neil thought he was in for a few days off, we were asked to put on a private celebratory dinner; we rose to the challenge and received lots of very favourable feed-back which has led us to start a Dining Club. We will carefully manage our diary and operate this in quieter months, however, if you have a special occasion on the horizon and would like us to help you celebrate, a quick call will get the ball rolling!.

Fans of Johnny Kingdom from the recent BBC2 programme might be interested to know that his Exmoor Safaris actually depart just 10 minutes away from us! We've had several guests stay just for that reason all giving top marks. As well as the safari, you also get to have lunch with Johnny, an experience in itself! If you would like to know more, his website is www.johnnykingdom.co.uk or telephone 01604 781818.

We've recently been approached to take part in the South Molton Garden Marathon. On Saturday 16th August, many private gardens will be open for the general public to view. We will be serving Cream Teas (of course), will be holding raffles and have local crafts and produce on sale. All monies raised will be donated to the Macmillan Nurses. We're very pleased to be asked and Neil will be out in the garden from now until then getting everything ready- The Hens, will of course, be wearing their best bonnets for the occasion- hope they're on their best behaviour!

With "Something for Everyone" this summer, we hope we will be welcoming you to our home very soon.

Happy Holidaying!

Bev and Neil
