Sampson Stats

Summer is officially over and we have just completed 56 consecutive days of looking after lots and lots of lovely guests! Never mind the Beijing Olympic stats, what about ours: we've washed 187 sheets, 748 pillow cases; served 361 eggs and 392 rashers of bacon. We've had a family from Sweden, a lady from Italy, many guests attending weddings, a couple celebrating their engagement, loads of holiday-makers, business travellers and even 2 brothers here to watch a five day football tournament - hi Adam and Tim!! We mustn't forget the "Boys" from Hydratight, 5 great guys who made a stop-over during their charity cycle ride from Lands End to John O'Groats. How are the legs? Visit www.lejog08.com

Name The Rooms Winners

Thanks to everyone who entered our "Name the Rooms Competition". We had lots of really good suggestions but there could only be one winner; Congratulations to Anne and Dave Stone who came up with the great idea of naming the rooms after herbs, which complement Neil's love and expertise of cooking and enables us to decorate and theme the rooms around each herb. Next time you book, you will be offered the Peppermint, Rosemary, Thyme, Basil (no Faulty Towers reference please), Bay and Lavender Rooms which will eventually portray their individual names. We weren't going to have a runner up but we have to admit that Marion Wilson's suggestion of Corn, Maize, Barley, Pampus, Ryegrass and Reed came a close second, so next time you visit Marion, there will be a bottle of Champers waiting for you!

Join Us for Christmas

We are open all year round and no matter what the season or weather you can expect a very warm welcome. Christmas and New Year Breaks, if last year is anything to go by, will be wonderful occasions.

Bev & Neil Flat Out After the Sampson Olympics

Our guests have totally ignored the "not-so-good" weather and visited many and varied places round and about. They have been surfing at Croyde, cycling on the Tarka Trail, walking on Exmoor, eating Cream Teas at far too many places to mention, visiting National Trust and RHS Gardens and generally having a good time, not forgetting thoroughly enjoying Neil's super duper dinners and brekkies!

Our hens have been on fine form entertaining the guests, hijacking cars, cadging cakes and biscuits and providing the best eggs ever, in appreciation. We managed to grow enough spuds in our 2nd crop to last to the end of August and our first attempt at tomatoes has also been a big success, yes they all ripened to a deep red despite the rain and lack of sun!! The orchard has successfully produced tons of baking and eating apples - look out for lots of scrumptious apple dishes on the Daily Specials Board! Our squash plants are now beginning to grow and we're under way with plans for our next vegetable patch - we are well and truly embracing this wonderful country lifestyle.

We're now looking ahead to the Autumn months and our new menu will be going to print in the next few days. Lots of hearty, warming dishes to greet our walkers on return from their trek across Exmoor and the South West Coastal Path, hopefully in the glorious sun that is currently shining down on us and enabling Neil to get his favourite toy out - the sit -on lawn mower!
